A bit of a writer, a bit of a historian and a bit of a artist, Johnny Peterson is good for a story. Several, actually. When people placed orders for shirts Saturday at the Northeast South Dakota Celtic Faire and Games, he snuck to the back of his tent and printed them. But out front, he was happy to chat to passers-by and talk about Celtic history, his mother's Scottish heritage and all of what the weekend event at the Brown County Fairgrounds has to offer to those who attend. To that end, there was an abundance of dancing and music Saturday, drawing a nice crowd to the Holum Expo Building. There were also a series of workshops, a dog parade and a booth selling Irish food. While others were taking in the entertainment, though, Peterson was outside the building, manning his tent. His business has been at the Aberdeen Celtic faire since it started seven years ago. The town, he said, has Scottish ties with the Alexander Mitchell Public Library being named after a Scottish banker and railroad financier. Aberdeen is named after Mitchell's hometown in Scotland. Mitchell, coincidently, was an avid curler, a tie-in with the other activity Saturday at the fairgrounds, a curling open house at the Odde Ice Center. "That's altogether Scottish," Peterson said. Dressed in a kilt, he also sold the traditional Scottish garments in his tent - kilts made by his wife, Mary. The couple is from Lindstrom, Minnesota.
